A little history on the Cabbage Rolls

Clarisse's husband John remembers having Pigs in Blanket as a kid, and thinks it could have been a recipe from his grandmother who was Hungarian

PIGS IN BLANKET… Cabbage rolls - Juanita Cottier

2 heads cabbage

1 large can sauerkraut

1 lb. each sausage and hamburger

½ onion, chopped

6 garlic cloves, minced

1 teaspoon oregano

Jalapeno peppers (I used five canned ones - three might be better)

salt and pepper

1/4 cup cooked rice

Soak about 18-20 outer cabbage leaves in boiling water to soften, about five minutes. Chop remaining cabbage and place in steamer with sauerkraut. Mix remaining ingredients and wrap equal portions in cabbage leaves. Steam the cabbage rolls for two hours over simmering water.
